Deanroy specializes in water resources engineering, hydrology, and remote sensing. He is currently working on relationships between evapotranspiration and soil moisture from the point to satellite scales. Dean completed his PhD in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering department at Texas A&M University under the guidance of Dr. Binayak Mohanty.

PREVIOUS RESEARCH

Access to water is a fundamental human right, with population growth projections of 2 to 3 billion by 2050 coupled with the limited or uncertain supply of fresh water, competition for water is a key driver of conflict and raises concerns about food security.

Agriculture accounts for 70% of the worlds global freshwater withdrawals and efficient irrigation scheduling will help maximize water savings. This research was conducted in Florida, USA.

Objectives of research were to

  1. Evaluate the use of Smartphone apps and evapotranspiration based controllers for irrigation scheduling to achieve water and energy savings.

  2. Develop irrigation scheduling models in R and MATLAB to optimize the Smartphone apps.
